Wahoo! Sweet Potato Fries

Wahoo! Sweet Potato Fries

The 3 ingredient (!!!) recipe that I have for you today is so simple and so sensational that I’m going to get right to it. It’s an adaptation of Stephanie Lathrop’s Wahoo! Baked Sweet Potato Fries! Gracious, these are good. And sweet potatoes are everywhere right now – not only in restaurants, but also in the produce section as well as the frozen foods section of most grocery stores. Since this has been a crazy week at our house, I opted for a bag of frozen sweet potato fries – steak fries to be exact. Not quite as healthy as a fresh sweet potato (the fries are – surprise! – fried), but I checked the labels and selected the lowest-fat variety I could find, which was about 4 grams of fat per serving. Not too bad.

Wahoo! fries are a delicious side for a burger or a brat, or just have them as a snack like we did. I felt like I was being bad, but not too bad! Sweet potatoes are a “super food,” after all – packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber, plus they have antioxidants AND anti-inflammatory properties, if you are into that kind of thing. I’m into flavor … and sweet potatoes top that list too!

So can I get a big “Wahoo” for “Wahoo! Sweet Potato Fries? Three simple ingredients … one incredible treat!

Testing Notes

  • First off – these were super easy. The original recipe (on our website – www.tastefullysimple.com) calls for fresh sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced – which would certainly be awesome, but I needed a time saver on this particular night … so I went with the frozen. Which really sped things up.
  • The original recipe called for olive oil and salt, but again, since I was using frozen fries I omitted these ingredients, as the bagged fries already had fat and salt in them.
  • So … I mixed up the dip, tossed the fries with the Wahoo! Chili, and into the oven they went! We ate them before the dip was fully ripened (we didn’t let it chill 2 hours) and it was still good.
  • I have to say that the Wahoo! Chili on the sweet potatoes was fab! We loved the combination.
  • Sweet potato fries are a little more limp than fast food fries, but no one in my family found this off-putting … we chowed ‘em!
  • Since we are in the throes of Christmas prep activities (either that or someone dropped a bomb in our house) we had some scraps of kraft paper laying on the kitchen table as I was prepping the potatoes. So I quickly made some cones for serving the fries – a couple of cuts, a couple of twists and some double-stick tape (also on the kitchen table) and voila! Totally cute sweet potato cones! I don’t mind tellin’ ya I was pretty impressed with myself. And it just goes to show that clutter can be a source of inspiration … ha!
  • This recipe also reminded me how much I like Wahoo! Chili Seasoning prepared as a dip … I usually use it in entrees, but it is such a unique and tasty dip. Why don’t I make it more often?! Well, I WILL make it more often.
  • Overall, my testers rated this recipe a 5.5 on a scale from 1 – 6, and we can’t wait to have them again!
