With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching and on everyone’s minds, it’s time for a new recipe to try out this year. With such a rich tradition around this holiday it’s sometimes hard to introduce new recipes to the family, however it’s not bad to change little parts of tradition. And besides, this is just a side dish – it’s not like throwing out the turkey and grilling some burgers!
This can be made on the stovetop or in the microwave, which can be so important when you’re making Thanksgiving dinner and struggling to get everything ready at the same time. Just throw the green beans in the microwave or on the stovetop and they will be done in no time.
Seasoned Green Beans
By Lisa Ek
- 1 lb. fresh green beans, trimmed
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- Seasoned Salt to taste
Place green beans in a vegetable steamer; place in a large pot with 1 inch of water in the bottom. Cover pot; simmer for 6-7 minutes or until beans are crisp-tender. Place beans in a serving dish. Drizzle with butter and sprinkle with Seasoned Salt to taste. Makes 5-6 servings.
Seasoned Green Beans
Tips:
- Alternate cooking method: Place green beans in a microwave-safe dish with about 1 inch of water on the bottom. Cover the dish; cook on high for 6-7 minutes or until crisp tender.
- Use Everyday Grillin’ Seasoning, Tuscany Bread Dipping Mix or Italian Garlic Bread Seasoning in place of Seasoned Salt.
- If using frozen or canned green beans, prepare as directed on package and then add butter and seasoning to taste.
- Crumbled bacon and/or shredded Parmesan cheese would be good on the seasoned beans as well.
