If I remember correctly, the best part about Halloween in elementary school was getting to wear my costume to school. But the second best part was the day we made dirt cakes for snack! Not only was the cake fun to make, but it was delicious to eat. Now … I’m not sure they still make these in school, but putting a very tasty spin on this classic treat will for sure be a hit with kids and adults of all ages!
If you can even slightly entertain the idea of sharing, this recipe would be great to use at a Halloween party with the kids. They can have fun making their own little treat, and you can make extra Chocolate Ugly Cake for the adults to make their own desserts also! Creepy Crawly Cake is definitely the best dirt cake ever!
Creepy Crawly Cake
- Chocolate Ugly Cake Mix
- ½ cup cold water
- 1¼ cups hot water
- Gummy worms
Prepare Chocolate Ugly Cake as directed; cool. Scoop prepared dessert into dishes; top with gummy worms. Makes 8-9 servings.

Tips
- You may be able to find even creepier crawly things than gummy worms around Halloween.
- To put this dessert over the top, drizzle with warmed Amazing Amaretto Chocolate Sauce before you sprinkle on the worms.
- This dessert can be served warm or at room temperature. The creepy factor will be increased if you serve it warm.

I did this once with a “dirt Cake”!! I hide gummy worms inside the cake so when the kids started dipping in, they got a neat little surprise. After the initial squeals and shocked looks,,everybody went looking for the “worms” in the “dirt and mud” and a good time was had by all!
My daughter is having a birthday party this weekend and wants me to make the creepy crawly cake for it…I think it will be perfect!! I cannot wait to see what all the grown ups think. I know the kids will love it!!
